From Zottegem or Balegem you can travel by train to cities as Ghent (20km), Antwerp (75 km), Brussels (55km) and Bruges (65 km) in a very comfortable way. This is especially for tourists who wish to stay for a longer period.
200 metres near the guesthouse there is a busstop. There you can take the bus to Zottegem or Ghent. At the station in Zottegem it is possible to rent a bike (blue-bike) for 1 euro a day.
The legendary disco "De Parasol" is located at 500 metres from the guesthouse. It is a place that you should have visited at least once in a lifetime!
The village Velzeke is situated at three kilometres from the guesthouse. It is for the real "Flandriens" among us. The Paddestraat and the Lippenhovestraat are one of the longest cobbled roads, very famous from the Tour of Flanders.
All hills and cobbled roads are within a distance of 35 kilometres. The area breaths everything that has to do with cycling and you can even ride your own Tour starting from the Paddestraat.
Furthermore you can visit the Provincial Archaeological Museum (PAM) with the children. Maybe you can dress up as a real Roman or feel yourself as an 18th century bandit on the track of Jan De Lichte.
Cottem (8km), a picturesque hamlet of Sint-Lievens-Houtem, is certainly worth a visit.
The area of Zwalm is nearby and there you can not only make beautiful nature walks and (mountain)bike tours but you can also visit the different water mills. Roborst, a small village known for its watercress cultivation (Cressana)or Little Switzerland, a beautiful piece of nature are worth visiting.
